In this video tutorial I explain how to do YouTube SEO which is a complicated topic that has to do with a few complex algorithms.

There are actually at least three algorithms you need to keep in mind when you do YouTube SEO. The first is the straight forward YouTube SEO algorithm. The second is their recommendation engine for recommended videos, and the third is Google’s search engine optimization which sometimes places videos in search results. You need to take advantage of all three in order to eventually get massive traffic from YouTube SEO.

To get your videos to show up in Google search results, the trick is to rank as the #1 result for that search query in YouTube search. For many videos, once that happens, you will be the first video to show up in Google search results. The challenge is that sometimes the first video is not on the first page of Google search results. So you must make a good video that gets enough views and sends off enough positive social and engagement signals to YouTube to signal that the video should be on the first page of Google search results.

The basics of actual YouTube SEO are keywords. Each video must target some specific keywords. Those keywords must be present in the title, description and tags of the video. Additionally, you should write out a long description for each video just like you see on this video’s YouTube description. Longer descriptions are great to help you rank in YouTube search. Once you do these on page (or on video) techniques, the next factors in YouTube SEO are views and the quality of engagement on those views. Quality of engagement is a concept comprised by a few smaller ideas. Engagement means that the average minute and percentage watch duration of a video should be longer than that of competitive videos. Additionally, things like comments, thumbs up, thumbs down, and social sharing are considered engagement. The more of these kinds of engagements your video has the higher the chance that the video will rank in YouTube SEO.
