How Aesthetics And Beauty Can Be The Biggest Force For Political Change In The World

Many people all over the world want to influence political change for the better. And almost everyone does it the wrong way and wastes their effort. In this article I want to introduce the best possible way that I feel there can possibly be to influence global change for the better. That way is not to be directly involved in politics, but rather to add beauty (aesthetics) to the world, to how we treat one another, and to the things we put out into the world.

Definition of Aesthetics

Aesthetics is a term that has a number of meanings. One meaning is that aesthetics is beauty. Another use of the term aesthetics is in the field of philosophy. In philosophy, Aesthetics is an official branch of philosophy that deals with art and beauty.

Which Fields Of Art Have Aesthetics

Each fields of arts like music, dance, literature, photography and other visual art have different aesthetic qualities. But they all have aesthetics in their own way.

Hierarchy of Different Aesthetics

– Does all art have aesthetics? Most things people create have some aesthetic to it.

– Is that aesthetics all the same? Obviously not. Think of it as a pyramid. On the bottom are all things people make with very basic aesthetic. Making up the bottom layers of the pyramid is various pop music, poorly made art, etc.

But the fascinating part of that aesthetics pyramid is the top of the pyramid. On top of the aesthetics pyramid are best pieces of art. In those pieces of art there is aesthetics that touch something deeply human in all of us.

Effect Of Art

When we come in contact with those pieces of art that are at the top of the aesthetics pyramid, the art has a profound effect on us. Think of the last song or book or any piece of art that really moved you.

Probably more happened than just taking in that piece of art. What often happens is that this piece of art almost comes inside us, and takes on a life of its own, and lives inside of us, changing us a little bit.

Something Human In All Of Us That Connects Us

What happens in those great and rare pieces of art is that they reach something deeply human in all of us. And that is why most people like it.

Here we can also challenge the notion that art is relative and different people like different art. NO! Aesthetics is a matter of being mentally, culturally, and emotionally ready to take in the art. Those things are relative. The art and the aesthetics are not.

We Become Followers And Students Of The Artists

So what happens after we listen to such a song that gives us a high, takes on a life of its own inside of us, and changes us forever?

We seek out that artist more and more! We listen to them ever more attentively. And we also have an ever increasing degree of trust towards them.

That makes them the teacher and us the students.

And here is the core issue. If someone can create something beautiful to give to the world and touch something human in all of us, that has the best of both worlds: they increased humanity in the world, and by virtue of that influenced political change.

The Artist Becomes The Politician Because He Can Influence People

So with many people seeking out the artist/creator who made that piece of art or whatever else moved those people, that artist becomes an influencer. And he influences towards the best things like kindness, love to each other, and things like that.

This is infinitely better than actually being in politics. Everyone hates and mistrusts politicians. And no one really feels good about debating political issues with others because no one ever convinces anyone else of anything.
