How To Monetize, Market And Promote An iPhone Karate And Kung Fu Fighting Mobile App
I was recently contacted by a mobile app developer and an entrepreneur who recently released a social karate and kung fu fighting game for the iPhone. In this article I will explain how to market and monetize such an iPhone app. If you want to follow along, here is the link to the karate iPhone app homepage and here is the link to download this app on iTunes.
How To Market This iPhone Karate And Kung Fu Fighting Mobile App
This is a new app, but the developer said that even when the app ranked #1 for the keyword “karate” the download numbers were hovering only around 100 per day, which isn’t much if we are to make this app a real business. The first thing that came to my mind was to try to rank this app for other search terms like kung fu, sparring, fighting, and other related search terms. We re-wrote the app keywords, title and description to reflect the keywords for which we are trying to rank. At the moment of publishing this blog post, the new title, keywords and description are not live yet.
There are more things that need to be done to promote such an app when it comes to app store marketing. Now that we optimized the listing for certain keywords, we must make the app itself be authoritative in search results so that it can have a chance to rank well for our chosen keywords. To become more authoritative in the app store, and app must get many natural 5-star and 4-star reviews, get more downloads than competitors, and have engagement signals like time spent on the app or number of times users open the app, which are higher than competitors. That will slowly get the app to jump over many of the competitors in its niche. Much of that has to do with the quality of the actual app, but much of that can be created artificially. For example, if the business which owns the app spends more on advertising or has a bigger social media presence, it can generate more downloads from interested users, which will help the app rank better in the app stores.

This is where the fun really starts. This app allows you to play against friends and against the computer. If you had noticed, many of the successful gaming apps don’t end. There is no limit to the levels. That is because they want to addict the user, and then make it more and more difficult to get to the next level, making the user consider paying for special powers more and more seriously. If the user is addicted enough, they cave in, and buy extra points or special powers.
Guess what happens in the next level of the game? It is also difficult and the user who has already justified paying money for special powers in the game, is likely to justify that purchase again. Level after level, a single user can spend quite a bit of money.
This is a very popular pattern of monetizing the apps. It is rare that a person will spend a significant sum of money on a game, but there are some individuals who have spent thousands and tens of thousands of dollars this way.
The other iPhone karate and kung fu fighting app is with ads by making it available for all languages, in every app store to give the app a chance for maximum downloads.
