Mobile app pricing: How much should an app cost & how much you charge for your app
In this tutorial I discuss a very important concept of how to find the right prince for your mobile apps. I discuss some of the merits of free apps which operate under the freemium business model. Then I discuss instances in which it makes sense to charge money for your app, and in each case I suggest approximate prices that make sense for certain instances.

If you are able to generate a lot of traffic from sources other than the mobile app stores like Google Play or Apple App Store, you can charge upfront for your app. But if you rely on the app store to bring you the bulk of your downloads, and do not have a great existing distribution channel, I strongly encourage you to make your app free.
The reason app entrepreneurs should consider making their apps free if they need to rely on the app stores for the bulk of their downloads is that unless the entrepreneur already has access to an existing strong distribution channel, the next best thing is to make the app competitive in app store search by setting the app price to be free. Of course, as entrepreneurs, we want to charge a lot of money for our apps. But consumers want free apps, and unfortunately for app entrepreneurs, the app stores are full of free apps, and the consumer is trained that it is ok to always have everything free. This represents a big challenge when deciding on the right price for your app because what the app is worth, and the effort you put into creating your app is far more than you can charge for your app. It is unfair, but this is life in the app stores.
When deciding the right price for your app, and how much you should charge for it, if you do decide to make your app paid, you should lean towards cheaper pricing because if users feel that the app cost more than the value it brought them, they might give you a bad review, and that review may decrease future potential downloads.
