When the safety of your warehouse merchandise is at stake, cutting corners is not an option. Every safety precaution must be observed, from setting sophisticated security systems to stacking in safe decks and racks. Your valuables should be kept safe from harm. Otherwise, you run the risk of losing a significant stream of revenue that will keep your business afloat.

What happens if your products are mixed or threatened by fire? What if the water sprinklers are set off and your goods are drenched in water? The damage can be mitigated if your warehouse uses pallet rack decking

Storage Capabilities

Wire decks, in general, can add storage capacity to your stored pallets. This can also provide stability for stored pallets with split and open cases. There are many types of wire decks, so it can be challenging to find one that will suit your kind of facility.

To address this challenge, it’s best to know more about mesh decks and differentiate the significant types of wire decks. This can help you determine which one will make the most sense for your facility or warehouse.

Why are wire decks and pallet decking important?

In any storage facility or warehouse environment, safety is the top priority. This safety is not only for the physical well-being of the employees but also for the safety of the company’s products. When the pallet rack decking with wire mesh is set up, you’re adding a tough layer of defense against the slipping of products. If this system is not in place, the risk of workplace damage and injury is higher.

Due to the thin space design of these deckings, they have an internal mechanism that can stop the build-up of dust on your products. The water can also seamlessly pass through it in case the water sprinklers are set off.

Aside from these safety features, pallet deckings also make the task of fulfilling orders easier. The employee assigned will have a better line of sight to every product on storage or display. Furthermore, the racks’ sturdiness is also improved since the weight across the beams is distributed evenly.

What are the types of Pallet Decking?

There are seven common types of pallet decking, and they are the following:

  • Wire Mesh Deck: This is the standard when you’re looking for pallet decking options. Most companies go for this decking because of its cost, load capacity, and support balance.
  • Plywood: If you’re stacking and storing lightweight products, you can go for 2 inches by 6 inches or 2 inches by 4 inches wood decking, and depending on the type of wood you will use, this type of decking can be the cheapest option. However, wood may not be sufficient to support the products that you need to store and stack.
  • Pallet Supports: This decking option is usually 2 by 4 inches in measurement. Despite its size, it can provide more strength and mitigate fire hazard-related issues.
  • Punch Deck and Bar Grating: The latter is considered as one of the sturdiest options. It can meet all kinds of loading requirements. It can tackle point loads satisfactorily, too. Punch deck, on the other hand, is a type of metal decking that offers high capacity, though not comparable with bar grating.
  • Steel Decking: When you need a smooth top surface, this is the most suitable option. Most companies use this option for tabletops and workstations.

There are different types of pallet decking, and the wide array of options can often make deciding hard. Then again, if you know the weight and dimension of the stored goods, you can identify the most advantageous decking option.
