You might think that the right tweet length is 140 characters. But that is only the limit. It turns out that the tweets that get the most engagement have under 120 characters, and ones near about 100 characters get the most engagement on average. The reason for this phenomenon is that when you publish a tweet, it appears in people’s feeds. And people scan their feeds rather than reaching each tweet carefully. So if your tweet is shorter than average, it make it easier to read, and people will focus on your tweet rather than tweets above and below yours.
So keep your tweets shorter than the maximum 140 characters and you should begin to see a 10-20% increase in overall engagements, retweets, numbers of people clicking on your links, and people marking your tweets as favorite. The increased engagement should also help the SEO of whatever you are promoting on Twitter, which is another great added benefit.
