3 Types Of Negative Attitude To Watch For When Starting A Business
This article will cover a few different scenarios when bad or negative attitude damages your business.
The common cases where negative or bad attitudes hurt your business are high ego, convincing yourself of reasons not to start the business or being defeatist, and not being able to work well with people.
Having an inflated ego
It is really easy to fall into this trap. When we are daydreaming about our business success, we are already on top of the world. In our daydreams, we made it! Even as you make progress with your business, every little success and step forward can be a great confidence and ego booster.
But it is important to realize that we are just at the beginning. Until we have made millions, or sold our companies, no matter how far along we think we are, the truth is that we are only at the beginning. We still have a lot to learn and a lots of hard work ahead.
Having a big ego can make you seem like a know-it-all and make you stubborn. Neither of these is a sign of intelligence and it will make you less likable.
So be humble. Being humble also makes you more likable which is a great business advantage.
Being difficult to work with
As a business founder, one of your most important skills is the ability to work well with people. Your investors, employees, advisors, and business partners should like and respect you. If you can get them to like and respect you, it will be that much easier to get them all onboard with what you are doing.
One of the first steps to being likable is staying humble. Other keys are that you must lead by example without being stubborn or denigrating other people who work with you about not being as great as you are. You must listen to everyone, be strong in your opinion without being stubborn, and work to make everyone on your team better either by giving them project in which they would excel, or by helping them.
Having a defeatist attitude
Either when you are starting or at any point of growing the business, make sure you have a can-do attitude. Try to catch your thoughts and see whether your mind pulls you in the direction of finding a reason why and how something can be made possible, or does your mind pull you in the direction of finding the reasons why that thing cannot be possible.
Very often, thoughts like having a lack of money, lack of experience, lack of support, or facing a number of other challenges can really prevent you from starting the business. Don’t let that kind of a mindset take over. It will stifle many of the initiatives which you want to undertake. Instead, try to be resourceful and creative about how to make things happen. Solutions won’t necessarily come to you right away, or even that day. Some things may take months to figure out. But if you are persistent and constantly working away at finding a solution, you will be much more likely to find it.
