In this tutorial I discuss why you should not have a private Twitter account if you join Twitter. Twitter is an open network, and you largely defeat the purpose of Twitter if you make your account private.

This is one lecture from my full social media marketing course. Take my full course on how to promote your business and reach 1,000,000 people. Or check out my book on how to reach 1,000,000 people here. Or browse all my online courses here.

Many people who first open a Twitter account have a very valid concern about the privacy of their tweets, and who may be reading what they write. There is often a natural urge to make a Twitter account private for whatever reasons. You might think that I will say that you should never do that, but there are some instances where you may do well with a private Twitter account.

But no matter how well you might do with a private Twitter account, you will almost always get more out of Twitter with a public account. That site is simply meant to be used as an open platform.
