Marketing vs advertising: What is the difference between marketing and advertising
In this video tutorial I explain the difference between marketing and advertising. To make things very simple, the difference is whether you pay for traffic or not. If you pay, that is advertising. And if you don’t pay to be promoted, that is marketing. You might think that this explains the difference fully, but there are a few more things to consider.
Don’t just assume that all marketing is free. In fact, all marketing has a cost to it. The cost may be time spent on executing a particular marketing strategy. The cost may be also employee salary. The cost could also be the time you have to wait before your marketing results in traffic or sales. So the marketing can often end up being more costly than the advertising, which is somewhat ironic. Think deeply about what will be more cost effective as well as more effective to get clients.
Some of the common marketing strategies online are social media marketing, SEO (search engine optimization), and publicity. The advertising models that are popular online are pay per click strategies like in Google Adwords or Facebook ads. You can advertise on Facebook, Google, Twitter, LinkedIn, Yelp, and even YouTube. Those are some of the most common places. Big brands also advertise on TV by purchasing time to place their commercials.
